Dear Writers and Readers;
I'm happy to announce that after a long hiatus, The Blue Moon Review/ Blue Penny Quarterly will begin publishing again in 2012 under the "Blue Penny Quarterly" name. (I always did like that one better.)
BMR/BPQ has been publishing significant literary work since 1994, and was one of the very early literary magazines online in the very early days of the Internet. We've published the work of Best American Short Story Awards winners, Guggenheim grant and Pushcart prize recipients alongside new writers, and writers have gone on to find agents and publish books as a result of their inclusion in BMR/BPQ.
The publishing landscape continues to change--with electronic publishing on the rise, self publishing expanding, and the increasing use of electronic book readers, more people are writing, publishing, and reading electronically than ever before. But I still believe there's the need for curated outlets for high quality writing, where readers who value great stories that are well told can come to find them, and writers who are doing great work can gain access to an expanding international community of writers and readers without having to do all of their own publicity.
BPQ will publish 12 stories per year in a quarterly eBook format for the reader of your choice, and the stories will also be available monthly via this blog. We're seeking short fiction submissions of up to 6,000 words or so via our online submission tool. We have a bias toward literary fiction, but are also not genre-adverse if the work has rich characterization and strong attention to language.
Please consider submitting your work, and we'd love it if you could pass the word about our reopening. Please also bear with us while we get everything set up to run well.
Watch for new work to start appearing sometime in the first half of the year--we'll keep everyone up to date via this site, Twitter, and Facebook.
-Doug.
